Powderburn recorded a combined cover of "Rebel Yell" and "White Wedding" by Billy Idol

Did you know that the Powderburn EP "Come and Take It" contains the first official cover song that the band has ever recorded? It's called "White Wedding" and the song combines two famous Billy Idol songs and smashes them into one. It's been a fan favorite at shows for the past few years and now it's yours to listen to at home!

It's available on itunes as well as here:
http://powderburn.bandcamp.com/track/rebel-wedding

Over the years the band has occasionally tossed a cover song or two into their sets, not limited to:

Deftones - Engine #9
Will Smith - Fresh Prince of Bel Air
ZZ Top - Under Pressure
Rob Zombie - Super Charger Heaven
Metallica - Seek and Destroy
CCR - Fortunate Son
Charlie Daniels Band - Devil Went Down to Georgia
Pantera - This Love, Cowboys from Hell, Strength Beyond Strength
Helmet - Unsung
Misfits - Dig Up Her Bones
Anthrax/Joe Jackson - Got the Time

However this marks the first time a song was recorded in the studio and officially released. If you like, download it, spread the link on facebook and perhaps the band will record more cover songs in the future...hell that list above makes a pretty cool album actually.

Details about October 5th in Austin, TX

As you may recall the band recently played a show at Elysium in Austin, TX. This show was referred to as the 'return to our stomping grounds' show because this is the exact venue the band used to play every Thursday night in the band's infancy.  We had such a good time that night that we decided to book another show there and it's coming up on Friday, October 5th!

Have you been to Elysium before? There are few places with the unique atmosphere like Elysium has. It's on the corner of 7th and Red River, which is a super short walk from historic 6th street in downtown Austin. If you haven't been there, or been there recently, check out a few photos below; you can check out even more on Elysium facebook page.

While it is primary referred to as a "goth bar" do not let that scare you away even if you are not into the goth scene. It's a really cool place and it even features air conditioning. That sounds like a joke, but believe it or not many 'venues' in Austin do not have working air conditioning, even though it's frequently over 85 degrees at night. In addition to the joy of cool air, the staff is all super coo, not to mention a lot of them have been working there since Powderburn started, so naturally there is a lot of history with this venue.

On Friday, October 5th the band will be sharing the stages with Solarfuse and Suicide Panda. If you've been a long time Powderburn fan you may recall Solarfuse from the Backroom days, or perhaps just a few years ago when the bands played a Halloween show on 6th street. Solarfuse is an 'industrial metal' band that always puts on an entertaining show and Suicide Panda will be opening the show with a cool raunchy electronic DJ set!

So make plans to get there early and stay late. Suicide Panda will go on around 9:30/10pm and Powderburn at midnight. It's good to get out of the house and see some live music once in a while. The price is $10 to get in and ages 18+ are welcome. We know you'll gladly spend your hard earned money by paying for a ticket to go see Little Mermaid 3d for $19 so why not see a killer show in your own backyard!? Yes, we know it's tempting to sit at home playing Call of Duty every night, or showing off your poker skills at partypoker, but once in a while it's healthy to make plans to go out.

Elysium
705 Red River Street Austin, TX 78701
(512) 474-2285

So this is your chance, Friday, October 5th in Austin, TX @ Elysium....take off work, find a babysitter, and enjoy yourself in downtown Austin...you deserve it!

UNABLE TO PLAY TONIGHT IN HOUSTON

UNABLE TO PLAY TONIGHT IN HOUSTON
We hate to do this, but unfortunately due to drummer Joel Reyes being hit with a particularly bad illness we will not not be able to play our Houston show tonight. He's been ordered on bed rest due to very high fever and dehydration among other symptoms. Believe us, if he knew he could play then he would, but for now he needs to rest up and get better. Sorry for the late notice everyone!!! If you are in Houston please be sure to check out our Austin friends, Solarfuse, who will still be playing the show tonight at 19th Hole. Not to mention lead guitarist Eric, a Houston native, will most likely be in attendance.

New Powderburn EP to be released

Dear friends, foes, baby mamas, and former MC Hammer fan club members,

We know you’ve been waiting a very long time for the release of new Powderburn material and the time has finally come!!!

We are proud to announce that the final mixes for our new EP “Come and Take It” have come back from L.A. and we couldn’t be more excited to get these out into your hands as soon as possible. Now before we go much further allow us to clear up something….this new EP was recorded last summer of 2011 and is not the EP that we had the kickstarter fundraiser for late in 2011. That currently untitled EP will still be recorded and released later this year….that’s right....2 EPs in one year!! Now……..on to the details for this new “Come and Take It” EP!
________________________________________

Here is the track listing for Come and Take It:
1. 1. Take Anything
2. 2. Yeah
3. 3. Ground Swell
4. 4. Mona Lisa
5. 5. Descending (acoustic)
6. Bonus digital only track: Rebel Wedding (Yes, we recorded our Billy Idol cover medley and it will be available strictly online!)
Recording Details
We were very fortunate to work with producer Aben Eubanks (Kelly Clarkson guitarist/songwriter) on this project and couldn’t be more thankful for his time and guidance in shaping these songs into the solid tunes they became. Behind the controls was Josh Woodhouse of Droplink Studios and we also thank him for his patience and professionalism when working with a band that can sometimes nit-pick at every little detail of a recording process. Lastly, these songs were mixed by Josh Newell (Black Veil Brides, Linkin Park) and again we also have to give a huge shout out to him for the time and effort he put in working with our music sound even better than we could ever imagine. Oh yeah…and there’s our mastering guy, who came in at the very last moment and offered to master the mixes for nothing more than cigars and power strips. Dale Singleton….you are the man!! 
________________________________________

So…how do you get a copy of the new songs?? 1 of 2 ways….see below.
EP Release Show
1. 1. If you live nowhere close to Austin, TX and do not have a personal plane, know someone who has a personal plane, or have a fear of flying…..you will be able to get the album at: www.powderburn.net/music (The album will eventually be available on iTunes, Amazon, and at other major online places…but unless you are Lady Gaga there is no telling when it will show up there)

2. 2. If you are near Austin, TX then you need to come to the EP Release show! Powderburn returns to the 6th street scene for our “Come and Take It” release show at Dirty Dog on Saturday April 14th, 2012. As if the EP release wasn’t a good enough reason to come out, we will be sharing the stage with A Good Rogering, Meyvn, and Within Your Hands. Doors are at 8:00pm and Powderburn will hit the stage at around midnight. We will be releasing the "Come and Take It" EP at this show so you can finally get your hands on our new music which should hold you over till our next recording project finishes up later this year. It’s been a long process since we first hit the studio last summer, but we worked with some of the best people in the biz to get this done and we know you won’t be disappointed in the end result. So come on out and celebrate the release with us and a few hundred friends.

Did you also know that this will be the official return of drummer Joel Reyes to Powderburn? He rejoined the band about two years ago after his replacement Patrick Swift got the hell out of Texas, however this will be the first song with Joel on drums since “Here and After” which was featured on the Echoed in Red EP. We miss our good friend Pat and all still keep in touch with him, but it's also great to once again hear Joel behind the kit!

See you in the pit!

Today is Greg's birthday!

Happy Birthday to Powderburn bassist Greg Enkler!!!

The band members and crew have shared their thoughts about Greg down below.

We would love to hear from you too! If you would join us on facebook today to share your thoughts and to learn all kinds of Greg info. If you have any pics with Greg, of Greg, or about Greg, we would love to see them. Here is a Greg tidbit that we recently posted on facebook :

"Did you know Greg wrote the main riff on "Erased" from our 2003 album? Listen to it here and maybe even buy a copy to show Greg your support. :)

http://powderburn.bandcamp.com/track/erased

KenLockman (Vocals and Rhythm Guitar):

"Greg has really stood the test of time. The other day I was curious to know just how many shows he and I have played together and I counted it to be over 600 shows!!! That is an amazing feat for a band that has operated without a record label and I am proud that we have been able to hold it together this long. The fact is most bands break up after 3-4 years and with only a handful of shows under their belts, yet Powderburn remains alive and kicking and it has everything to do with the members in this band and their ability to grow as a unit.

We all change over the years but hopefully we do not lose the things that define us in the first place and Greg has not lost those things. He remains a strong song writer, has a natural ability to compose harmonies and is literally one of the most solid/consistent bass players I have ever seen."

Eric Anthony (Lead Guitar):

MLB recruiter: Hey Mr. Enkler, how would you like to play baseball for the Yankees.

Greg: Do I have to cut my hair and quit smoking and stop playing music?

MLB Recruiter : Yes, but you will make millions.

Greg: Suck my bass!

"I think that’s greg in a nutshell. His passion for music is only matched by his passion for making pizza. (which is some of the best I’ve ever had). Without greg, we would only have speed thrash songs (which I'm cool with). Hell, we wouldn't even be able to play shows - Who's going to drive, or load/unload the trailer? If it wasn't for Greg, I would be dead. Seriously, I passed out under the van one time. Ken would of never looked for me. Between his knowledge of sports, mafia movies, mechanics & recipes…there’s still a little room left to write some pretty kick ass music. He also hates chicken."

Joel Reyes (Drums):

"Greg in a lot of ways is the heart of this band. He has more drive and determination than most entire bands combined.

I also look up to him not only as a person, but as a musician because he constantly finds ways to make me into a better drummer with his ideas. I'm very thankful to celebrate yet another one of his birthdays with him not just as my bassist, but as my friend."

Dizzy (Lights, Sound, Guitar Tech, Tigers):

GKE SHOULD START HIS OWN UNION!!!

Seriously! If he got paid what standard roadies got paid, (not including his bass-ing abilities) he would be making $200 for load in, $200 for load out, and .40 a mile for driving, with 8 hour breaks for every 10 driven, and a 600 mile limit per day!

Gurg does too much work just to get to swing his head around on stage!

OCCUPY GREG!

Bippie Super Bulgaria (Road Crew):

“Every time I see you I miss my hair a lil more. Happy Birthday man!”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREG!
