I check it out and realize that we haven't posted a single damn thing in over a year.

What the hell gives?

No excuses here, but I think this had something to do with the fact that the band decided to go on hiatus for a little bit so we could pursue individual things in our lives. Or, maybe we're starting a new Olympic curling team. If you've hung out with us long enough, you would know that the last possibility is not that far from the truth. The topic of curling is something that occurs frequently in social conversations within our little group...usually accompanied with a nice glass of Courvoisier.

Here's some info on curling: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curling

And Courvoisier: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courvoisier

I seem to remember at some point last year we all sat down and asked each other where we were at in our lives and how in pertains to Powderburn. Now, I don't remember exact details but I'm going to quote what I do seem to recall:

Ken: "You know, I sometimes feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind, wanting to start again."

Joel: "Greg!! You're out of beer! I only drive my ass all the way up here for one thing...and it's not for stupid meetings! It's for F**KING beer!"

Greg: "I'm really starting to feel more and more Texan by the day and I think I'm ready to begin my transition into renouncing my Yankeehood and upgrading to Southern Pride. I wasn't born here, but I'm glad I got here as fast as I could!!"

Eric: "...." (Eric really didn't say anything, he just stared at his iPhone for two hours with random giggles from time to time while showing us pics of...well....we'll just leave that out of the description)

So what are we up to now? I think it's just life as usual for the moment while we figure out our next project. Moving forward, Powderburn wants to make sure that when we commit ourselves to something whether it be a show or an album or whatever, that we commit 100% of our focus as a band on it. We have a lot going on in our personal lives and sometimes that conflicts with the time and attention needed to make sure that we give our fans the best product we can.

For now, stay tuned and we'll keep you updated with whatever we have going on in the world of Powderburn.

Keep it metal everyone!!

-Joel and the rest of Powderburn

P.S. => Oh yeah...speaking of personal lives, Greg had a kid recently. Well, not like GREG had the kid...his wife did. Wow...saying that Greg has a wife and a kid seems very strange now that I type it out.

P.S.S. => Said child (a son by the way) will FOREVER be a Texan. Be sure to remind Greg of that whenever you see him. You can also tweet him: @GregEnkler

Powderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561487916003837761.post-32311498724232807962014-03-14T16:00:00.000-07:002015-06-08T13:39:53.190-07:00SXSW Cares Fund
We want to thank everyone who came to our show this past Wednesday in Austin, TX. Historically speaking, this is around the time when Powderburn comes out of their winter hibernation and plays their first shows of the year and 2014 will be no exception.

Continuing our tradition, we will be playing off the SXSW grid at Adam Brewer's Heart of Texas Rockfest located at 7th & Neches on March 12th (Wednesday). We are slated to go on at 11:00pm so this will give everyone time to head downtown and find parking before we hit the stage. As always, Rockfest is FREE and requires no badges or wristbands or arms/legs or whatever else the SXSW people are asking people to contribute this year. Rockfest is a celebration of the music, musicians, and their fans and continues to deliver by providing a wide variety of music to choose from among the 100 or so bands that play this festival every year.

Some of the other acts on the bill for March 12th are: Dharma Kings featuring David Komie, Thunderosa, and Memory of a Melody...and many more.

We look forward to seeing y'all there!!

...and as always, we'll see you in the pit.

Joel, Ken, Greg, Eric

Powderburn

Powderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561487916003837761.post-26947752228208465042014-01-30T20:06:00.000-08:002015-06-08T13:39:53.174-07:00Was 2013 the final year for the band?To all the Powderburn friends and family,

Can you believe it? Part 2" EP is being released December 14th!"This is an actual emergency."
- "Wires"

We weren't really sure if we were going to be able to pull this off but somehow, all the pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place that will allow Powderburn to release our second EP in 2013, titled 432 Part 2!

When we hit the studio last year to record what eventually became the 432 EP, we had to pick only a few songs in order to fit the time constraints we were under. This meant that we had to set aside some of the other songs we'd written and hopefully be able to release those sometime soon. Well, that time has thankfully come.

Powderburn will release 432 Part 2 on Saturday, December 14th, 2013 and it will contain 3 original songs along with 2 cover songs. The album will be available at www.powderburn.net/music and the track listing is as follows:

1. Wires
2. Prophecy
3. Silence
4. Dig Up Her Bones (The Misfits)
5. Got Me Under Pressure (ZZ Top)

Once again, as is pretty much the mantra with Powderburn, there is a very diverse range of styles and moods with this collection of songs. Ranging from the fast, aggressive, and angry sounds of "Wires" to the power rock feeling of "Silence", Powderburn once again proves that we operate without a template and play to our strengths as artists without a need to fit in to a particular style.

As if our own music wasn't enough, we decided to throw in a couple extra treats in the mix. "Dig Up Her Bones" by The Misfits has been in the Powderburn set at various times since the early 2000's. We also pay homage to fellow Texas rockers ZZ Top with our rendition of their classic song "Got Me Under Pressure".

As part of the release festivities, Powderburn will be playing the annual A Very Metal Christmas show also on December 14th @ Dirty Dog Bar in Austin, TX along with our good friends from Snake Skin Prison and Inch of Dark. Normally, you'd be hearing some of these new songs as part of the set, but due to Eric falling off a grocery store horsey carousel and breaking his collarbone, we're going to hold off on that until we're a little more rehearsed. BUT...and this is a big but...the venue WILL be playing the tracks over the PA right before Powderburn's set. So, come early and instead of just watching us setup and yell at each other because Princess Joel didn't get enough space onstage, you can listen to 432 Pt. 2 over the PA.

2013 has been an interesting year for Powderburn and we can't think of a better way to finish it off than with another EP release and a Christmas show with some of our good friends. Spread the word about Powderburn and their new release...and we will be seeing you in the pit!!

#thedevilsontheradio

-Powderburn

Powderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561487916003837761.post-70610686499981807532013-12-10T19:41:00.000-08:002015-06-08T13:39:53.157-07:00Local Licks!! We've been on a campaign to return ever since our last time there when we shared the stage with Drowning Pool. The stars, planets, and key hairs in Eric's beard have finally aligned to make it happen once more.

As if this weren't enough, we will be sharing the stage with platinum selling artists P.O.D., Flyleaf, (a fellow Central Texas band) and Stars In Stereo as they make a stop there on their tour. As always, it's an honor to perform for our troops, their families, and their friends and we look forward to seeing everyone again!

Powderburn will hit the stage at 5pm - Check out the flyer below for full details!

Powderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561487916003837761.post-66566830521397359512013-07-12T03:30:00.000-07:002015-06-08T13:39:53.102-07:00We miss our troops! As Powderburn has been involved in the process of booking shows, and doing our best to fill up our calendar as much as possible, we sometimes sit and ask each other where we would like to play. Being in Austin, TX has a great advantage over other cities in Texas because we are right in the middle of Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio....so of course we love playing those places as often as possible because they are all within four hours of Austin. However, Powderburn has always had a very special connection to the military bases in El Paso, TX (Fort Bliss which 10 hours from Austin) and Killeen, TX (Fort Hood which is 1 hour from Austin).

A couple of years ago, Ft. Bliss was a very "out of the way" stop for us and we weren't quite sure what to expect. All we knew was that we had a very unique opportunity to play for real true American heroes and that was what made these opportunities very special. One of the most memorable shows was a free "Rock The Fort" show held directly on the Fort Hood grounds where Powderburn was direct support for our longtime friends Drowning Pool. We knew it was going to be a good show as Drowning Pool has a very strong relationship with the armed forces. Still, walking out onstage to 10,000 people was something that we couldn't even have predicted in our wildest dreams. It was very much a defining moment in Powderburn history that reminded us that we're part of something bigger in the music world and that we have and continue to leave our mark in the world of entertainment. But, one of the most moving and inspiring aspects of playing at Ft. Bliss is the chance and honor to be able to sit down and talk face to face with the troops about their experiences and their sacrifices for our country. It truly is a very eye opening experience when you take a few moments to listen to someone describe their life in the military.

With that, Powderburn is trying to return back to Fort Bliss as soon as possible and we thought it would be nice to share a little video with you to show how hard we are trying. We miss you Ft. Bliss and we'll be back very soon. We also would love to play in Fort Hood whenever the opportunity arises. Thank you for all your sacrifices and your dedication to making the United States the country it is today.

-with much respect and admiration,

PowderburnPowderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561487916003837761.post-66635938452817800742013-06-09T10:59:00.000-07:002015-06-08T13:39:53.122-07:00Powderburn playing during Rot Rally 2013 - Austin, TX

It's almost Rot Rally time in our hometown of Austin, TX where 50,000+ motorcycles will descend upon the Austin area to attend the annual Republic of Texas Biker Rally. There will be over 20 bands playing between the War Horse bar and it's new next door neighbor Project Infest (Formally Antones) and you can be part of the Rockfest party that keeps going long after SXSW is over for only $10. The $10 will get you in to both clubs (or you can choose to only get into one for $6) and there is a virtual who's who of Rockfest artists playing in both clubs. Powderburn will be playing Project Infest at 11:15pm sharp...and if that wasn't enough, we will be playing in block with other Austin bands Black Earth, Critical Assembly and Dirty Wormz. Rockfest is THE event to be at during SXSW if you don't want to spend a lot of money on wristbands or badges and you get some of the best talent gathered on multiple stages for 4 days. We can't thank Adam Brewer enough for continually making us a mainstay of his festival and for his unlimited support of Powderburn. We saw some great bands over the course of the festival including old favorites and new upcoming bands.

If you were able to make it out to the show, and have a facebook profile, we would love to see any pictures you took or hear about how good/bad/horrible we played...or what ever other experiences you had with our show or anyone else you saw during Rockfest. Free Powderburn show on Wednesday! If it's spring break in Texas, then you know it's time for the annual SXSW film, interactive, and music festival. For those of you who don't know much about SXSW here's a quick rundown...

The first SXSW Festival was held way back in 1987 and the whole thought behind creating the festival was to bring more attention to the Austin music scene. Austin has long been billed as the "music capital of the world" so having a festival like this seemed only fitting and a proper way to display that badge to everyone. The powers that be in the Austin music scene wanted to create the perfect environment to bring people from all over the world to do business and to showcase talent. What started out with roughly 700 registrants back in those days has now grown to over 16,000 registrants. This doesn't even count the 32,000 registrants that also come here for the film and interactive portions of the festival as well. When you put it all together, what you get is quite possibly one of the best networking opportunities around to show off your talent.

As for Powderburn's role in all this...we will be playing slightly off the SXSW grid in the Heart of Texas Rockfest Festival. This event, which started back in 2000 in one tiny venue with 16 bands, has now grown to hundreds of bands playing in various venues in Austin. Powderburn has been one of the lucky few to be a Rockfest mainstay throughout the years and one of the best features of this festival is that because it's off the SXSW grid, it doesn't follow the wristband/badge rules that other SXSW venues have to follow. Does that mean you have to travel to some hidden part of town to find it?? NO! It's held right in the middle of downtown Austin (7th and Neches) among all the other SXSW venues.

Powderburn will be playing on Wednesday night, March 13th at 11:00pm sharp at the outdoor stages located at 7th and Neches. Once again, this is FREE and you do not need wristbands or badges or anything to come see this show. Also performing that night will be legendary Austin musician Jason McMaster with his band Broken Teeth as well as Austin's guitar virtuoso Yayo Sanchez with his band Cosmic Wolf.

Come on out and enjoy the kickoff of the SXSW Music Festival with Powderburn at a FREE show in the heart of downtown Austin. See you there!!!

For a complete schedule of the bands playing Rockfest (Wed-Sat) go to: http://texasrockfest.com/inc/Schedule_Print.asp?disp=PRINT

-PowderburnPowderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561487916003837761.post-90751586931777084942013-02-25T07:39:00.000-08:002015-06-08T13:39:53.057-07:00"432" now on iTunes!
"432" now available on iTunes!!
Some of you may have already heard but "432" is now available on iTunes! In addition to being on iTunes, you should see it start to pop up on other sites like iHeartRadio, Xbox Music, Spotify, Amazon MP3, and others. Ahhh the wonders of digital distribution.

SXSW
It's almost that special time of the year where thousands upon thousands of
people flock to Austin during spring break to pay homage to the music gods
and a few hundred dollars for a wristband to experience the phenomenon known
as South by Southwest. In true Powderburn fashion, we will be a part of
these festivities as well sort of. Powderburn has been a mainstay at the
The Heart of Texas Quadruple Bypass Music Festival a.k.a. The Heart of Texas
Rockfest for many years now. The very cool thing about this festival is
that it's off the SXSW grid while still being downtown where everything else
is going on. That's right; you do NOT need a wristband to attend this
show, you do not need to wait in line for the chance of getting in..none of
that bulls**t. Austin!!We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was able to make it out to our show on Saturday despite having to deal with the Mardi Gras weekend chaos. This was a very special show for Powderburn because it was also a way for us to celebrate the release of the "432" EP that was funded by Powderburn fans from all over through a kickstarter campaign.

It was very exciting to see just how many of you made it out! We had fans that drove from all over Texas to be there (and keep in mind TX is 12+ hours long), along with radio DJs such as Chuck Loesh from 101x's No Control, as well as tons of local bands showing their support such as 7 Miles an Hour, Dead Strangers, Black Thorn Halo, and many more!

The show started at 9pm with Witch Diaries, who is an amazingly talented progressive metal instrumental band fronted by a quirky 80 year old man (or is he?) that plays guitar so well it makes you wonder your life choices. Up next was Downfall 2012 who puts on a really entertaining show, complete with a blueman group type of drum-off that occurs while the members seamlessly switch instruments. Be sure to catch them with us in Houston, TX on 2/16 at The 19th Hole!

We took the stage next and played for 80mins while debuting three new songs from the 432 EP that have never been played live before (Raise the Flag, Crash, The Substance of All Things Hoped For). After playing "Hoi Polloi" from our self titled cd we were called back on stage for an encore and former guitarist Josh Klayman graciously joined us on stage to play two old tracks; Revulsion and Now You Know...and the crowd went nuts!

However the show was not done yet, closing out the night while we had some drinks and chatted with our friends/fans was our good friends Nothing in Return who played some straight forward no bs hard rock / metal. The bass player, Donovan, is a long term friend of ours who has been everything from our bus driver to our tshirt supplier...definitely hit him up if you need any screen printing. He also works at Dirty Dog and we definitely want to thank Ben along with all the bartenders for their support of local metal! Be sure to look up all these bands during the week of SXSW as you are bound to catch a free show from all of them. (As always Powderburn will be playing on the always free, Texas Rockfest showcase...keep an eye on their website for the exact day time to be announced!)

If you have any pictures or videos of the show, please let us know by tagging us on our brand new facebook profile. We love seeing what our fans are able to capture at out shows and we like to feature them whenever possible on our website.

Powderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561487916003837761.post-55572666790406763542013-02-05T10:21:00.000-08:002015-06-08T13:39:53.031-07:00Powderburn on 93.7 KLBJ tonight!Hey you krazy fans! updateFirst off we would like to say Happy New Year to all of you and we hope that 2013 brings you much positivity and growth! We have a few things to get everyone caught up to so let’s just get right to it as 2013 promises to be a fast paced year in the world of Powderburn.

New EP
We’ve finally finished up our new EP which is titled “Four Thirty Two” and it will be released on January 29th, 2013. The track listing is as follows:

1. Raise The Flag

2. Crash

3. The Substance Of All Things Hoped For

Not to be all cliché but good things really do come in small packages and even though this is just a 3-song EP, it clocks in at just under 15 minutes and in typical Powderburn fashion we touch on several different styles and musical textures. In addition to the hard work that we put into these songs, we would also like to thank the all-powerful Dale Singleton for his time and efforts in mixing the EP in a way that compliments the music very well.

Hometown show in Austin, TX

We’re starting off the new year with a hometown show at Dirty Dog on 6th street. This show will serve as a night to celebrate the release of “432” and we will be bringing quite the show to help kick this year off with a bang. We will also be appearing with Downfall 2012 and Nothing In Return as well as one other guest that is TBA at the moment.

Dirty Dog

505 E. 6th Street
Austin, TX

Kickstarter campaign mailings

For those of you who donated to our Kickstarter campaign and are due your shirts, banners, lyric books and other physical items, you either have received them by now or they are en route soon to be hitting your mailbox. The information on how to download a digital copy of the EP will be hitting your e-mail boxes very soon.

Austin Chronicle Music Poll
Since 2002, Powderburn has been a consistent top 10 metal band in the polls and we want to keep that trend going again this year. Powderburn has also had a nice little run of taking the top spots in the past as well:

2006-07: Best Metal

2004-05: Best Metal

2003-04: Best Metal/Industrial

2002-03: Best Metal/Industrial

2002-03: MP3 of the Year

So, how do you vote?

Head over to: http://www.austinchronicle.com/feedback/musicpoll/12/

Nominate Powderburn for the best metal band and fill out the rest of the ballot as you see fit. You do not have to have every category filled out in order to submit but if you have votes for other members of the Austin music community then please by all means cast your votes. All we ask is that you help us stay in the top 10 metal bands or maybe even hit that top spot again. Send this to your friends, family members, enemies, brosefs, pets, whoever you can think of and tell them to vote for POWDERBURN!!!

Thank you all for your continued support of Powderburn and we’ll be seeing you very soon at a stage close to you.

Joel, Ken, Eric, Greg - PowderburnPowderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4561487916003837761.post-23628327776546652242012-11-05T21:16:00.000-08:002015-06-08T13:39:52.982-07:00Powderburn recorded a combined cover of "Rebel Yell" and "White
Wedding" by Billy IdolDid you know that the Powderburn EP "Come and Take It" contains the first official cover song that the band has ever recorded? It's called "White Wedding" and the song combines two famous Billy Idol songs and smashes them into one. It's been a fan favorite at shows for the past few years and now it's yours to listen to at home!

It's available on itunes as well as here:
http://powderburn.bandcamp.com/track/rebel-wedding

Over the years the band has occasionally tossed a cover song or two into their sets, not limited to:

Deftones - Engine #9
Will Smith - Fresh Prince of Bel Air
ZZ Top - Under Pressure
Rob Zombie - Super Charger Heaven
Metallica - Seek and Destroy
CCR - Fortunate Son
Charlie Daniels Band - Devil Went Down to Georgia
Pantera - This Love, Cowboys from Hell, Strength Beyond Strength
Helmet - Unsung
Misfits - Dig Up Her Bones
Anthrax/Joe Jackson - Got the Time

However this marks the first time a song was recorded in the studio and officially released. If you like, download it, spread the link on facebook and perhaps the band will record more cover songs in the future...hell that list above makes a pretty cool album actually.Powderburnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06878381825356669498noreply@blogger.com0
