Regarding the lineup change. . . .

Hey fans and friends,

I just wanted to clarify a few points with the last blog that maybe got left out. . . . writing that press release was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, so let me take some time and reinforce Powderburn's position in all this.

Firstly, Josh is and will still be one of our very good friends - this is all amicable and we truly do respect his decision. I know every band that hates each other always says "it's mutual and we all still love each other, blah blah blah". Powderburn is like a big Mafia family - once you're in, you're in. Don't be surprised if you see Josh behind the soundboard or jamming a song onstage once in awhile, just like Joel Reyes (we can't get rid of him either, he's like herpes, but herpes that can play drums well, heh). But seriously, the Homegrown show is an ending of sorts, but don't be too sad for Josh. He's got a whole different career that he is VERY good at to look forward to, and he'll still be around, begging you to buy his poor ass a crown and coke.

Secondly, and very importantly - let me assure you of this in a large font so you know I'm serious - POWDERBURN IS NOT BREAKING UP! We have had some advance notice of Josh's wishes for some time, and we've been going through the process of auditioning guitarists not only to find someone who can play well, but will fit right into this crazy family we have going on. We will have some news on that front in the very near future, so keep checking back.

We thank everyone who commented and wished Josh well. I know it means a lot to him, and it definitely means a lot to us that so many of you care. So, rock on, we'll see you on the 5th, and we will have a lot to celebrate about in '08! Later!

POWDERBURN PARTS WAYS WITH GUITARIST

POWDERBURN PARTS WAYS WITH GUITARIST
(December 3rd, 2007)

It is with a heavy heart that Powderburn makes the following announcement - lead guitarist Josh Klayman is parting ways with the band. The following is a personal note from Josh to the fans that have supported the band that he helped create many years ago:

Hey everyone, I just wanna let you all know that the 5th of December will be my final show with Powderburn at the Red Eyed Fly. It's been almost 9 years since I started this thing and its been awesome. However, I fit into this industry on the production side of things as well as the performance side and I'd like to give some other avenues a try that I don't have time to do while in Powderburn. I will still be playing live with most likely a couple bands so I'll keep everyone posted on where to catch me live in 2008! I really wanna thank everyone who ever came and saw us, bought me a beer, sang a song with me onstage, bought a cd or shirt, and basically everyone who helped us in any way.

See you on the 5th!!!

Josh

The remaining members of Powderburn, Greg Enkler, Ken Lockman, and Patrick Swift stated the following. "Learning that Josh wanted to leave was a hard thing to understand but over the last few months we've spent numerous hours talking about this and while it's still extremely sad to see him go, we all believe it's for the best thing for everyone. One thing all 4 of us have always agreed on is that things happen for a reason and we believe this change is no exception. It goes without saying though that whoever replaces him with have some big shoes to fill, both musically and personally."

As Josh stated the final Powderburn show with him in the lead guitar role will be the 101X Homegrown show at the Red Eyed Fly in Austin, Texas, on December 5th. The band will play at 11:30 and it's $5 to get in. We strongly urge anyone who has followed this band for any length of time to come out and support Josh in his last moments with the band, and his first moments on his new path.

Powderburn will soon release more information on its lineup change at:
http://www.powderburn.net

NOTE:

Due to the lineup change Powderburn will be unable to perform on 12/7 in Houston and 12/8 in Brownsville.
The band however will be playing on 12/12 in Austin in Round 5 of the Bodog Battle.

NEW VIDEO and SONG

POWDERBURN RELEASES NEW VIDEO

Powderburn releases concept video for Perfect Line

Perfect Line
WMP High | Youtube

(September 25, 2007) - It has been eight months since Texas metal band Powderburn released their benchmark CD/DVD Echoed In Red. The title track and Here and After have made their presence known on the band's website, along with social networking sites like MySpace, Fuzz, and Virb.

Now, the band has just released its first foray into the concept video. In conjunction with the innovative Austin production company Mercenary Mediums, the video for Perfect Line is now available on the band's website, in the download section, and a lower quality version on is available on YouTube.com. The song itself is now also available to hear on the band's myspace page.

"The video for this song is deliberately weird and obtuse", says drummer Patrick Swift, "We wanted a very open-ended idea because we always prefer someone to get their own ideas from what we create. It makes it belong to everyone that way, as opposed to just our own egos".

The video release precludes a much-anticipated trip to the Big Apple - New York City. The band is performing a showcase at Crash Mansion, a club in the infamous Greenwich Village. The show is all ages and the band performs at 10pm.

Powderburn to play in NYC on 9/27/07

2007_9_27 It's official! The band based in Texas, yet composed mainly of members from NY/NJ, are finally returning home to play a show @ Crash Mansion on Thursday, September 27th.

As most of you know we've been playing in the south, mainly in TX, for many years now so needless to say we're excited to show NY what we've been crafting all this time....not to mention we're going to consume an illegal amount of pizza.

We fully expect all of our friends, fans, family, baby mommas, homeless people we've given money to, and acquaintances, to be in attendance or we reserve the right to no longer count you as friends, fans, family or homeless. :) We know that not all of you live near the city. But seriously, do whatever you need to do to get there. We've been working like crazy and this show is very important to us on many many levels....take my word for it. So call out sick, skip school, find babysitters (although the show is all ages :), car pool, run a lemonade stand to raise money, and enjoy a nice trip to the city with friends in the fall of 2007 to drink free liquor and witness a band that's 10x better live than on CD. Did I mention we're traveling 28 hours to get there?!

Here's all the details!

Powderburn wins "Best Metal Band" for the 4th time

Powderburn Wins 4th Austin Music Award

Austin, Texas (March 18th, 2007) - Hard rock artist POWDERBURN is pleased to announce that the band has won Best Metal Band in their native Austin's annual Music Awards event for the fourth time.

The Austin Music Awards are held every year on March 15th, to coincide with the start of the world-famous South By Southwest Festival, a four-day event that brings bands, industry people, filmmakers, and thousands of fans from all corners of the world into Austin to celebrate music, art, and films of every genre.

With so much focus on out-of-town bands during South By Southwest, the Austin Music Awards are Austin's way of putting the spotlight on native bands, and POWDERBURN was in the spotlight again, accepting the first award of the night for Best Metal Band. "The award is given out solely based on fan voting through the Austin Chronicle," says drummer Patrick Swift, "which makes it that much better to have won four times now. We love our fans, and they support us right back. It's just amazing."

POWDERBURN accepted their award and had to immediately leave the festivites to make it to their show at the Heart of Texas Quadrupule Bypass stage at Spill Bar.

Video of POWDERBURN accepting their award and briefly hanging out in the backstage area is available at YouTube.com, following this link.

RateYourMusic.com gives "Echoed In Red" 4 out of 5 stars!

Echoed in Red is a strong and compact EP with 6 energetic power metal tracks. Powder Burn gets you started with the title track "Echoed in Red", it contains an enormous catchy drive. All of the songs are quite lyrics orientated and some of them do remind me of Linkin Park, when it comes to the explosive energy. There are even some moments on Echoed in Red that make the 80s hardrock come alive for a short while.

The guitar playing is overall quite indestructible , but it has it's lush moments also. These lush moments make Echoed in Red a well balanced album for those who like to hear instruments being "tortured" on one hand and on the other hand also like to hear exceptionally refreshing sounds from the guitars and percussion.

All the songs are written before there were lyrics, except the song "Oceans" where the lyrics came first. The intro of "Oceans" is kind of a short break, what seems to be a resting point on the cd, but in fact it's a prelude to another outrageous outburst, I think it has something to do with the story behind the lyrics. Well just watch the DVD and you'll know what I mean ;-)

Though there are no keyboards credited on Echoed in Red there is a marvelous intro on "Here and After" something that asks for more.....

:-)

Ken says: Thank you brave souls

I just wanted to thank everyone who came out the cd release party last night in Austin and braved the weather! Although many many people couldn't make it, we still had a blast with those of you that did.

For those of you that don't know there is "Ice Storm 2007" on it's way to Austin and the news stations warned people to stay home last night. Just our luck! haha. But seriously, thanks to those of you that made it out anyway and to those that didn't, no worries. We'd much rather you be safe than driving on some icy highways. I know how you Texas drivers are in wintry conditions! haha.

Our next Austin show is is 1/31 @ Redrum and is hosted by 101x and it will be all ages and only $1.01 to get in.

My guess is that we'll get a foot of snow that day! ;)
